An Elegant Breakfast and a $75 Giveaway

10 02 2011

Oh, and an award, too.  But we’ll get to that in a minute.

I’ve been given another opportunity to do a giveaway from CSN Stores, whose stores range from the general (office furniture) to the specific (a whole store devoted to beanbag chairs!) and include, of course, a cookware store.  Once again, the giveaway is for a $75 gift certificate, and is open to anyone living in the USA or Canada, or has a mailing address in one of those places.  Apologies to my more international readers.  To enter, just leave me a comment on this here post, and I’ll choose a winner via random number generator at 8:00 pm on Tuesday, February 15th.  This time, I’d like to hear about your favorite weekend breakfasts.

In the “One Meal, One Photo, One Sentence” tradition, here’s one I made recently.

Smoked trout, scrambled eggs, and biscuits

Smoked French trout, scrambled organic eggs, and buttery drop biscuits.

And now for the award.  The Mistress of Spices, a blog I found a few weeks ago, has conferred upon me the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award.

It acknowledges the amazing community of women in the blogosphere, and I’m so pleased that Ramya – an Indian-American living in Paris who writes up her adventures in vegetarian and spicy cooking – thought of me.  These awards work in a pay-it-forward manner, so I’m going to pass on the love to a few of my food blog sisters: five who are relatively new to me, and five I’ve been following for at least a year.

The new: Fiona of Life on Nanchang Lu, Jessica of Jessica’s Dinner Party, Lisa of Tarte du Jour, Grapefruit of Needful Things, and Mimi & Katie of Foodie and the Chef.  I’ve been enjoying getting to know all of you!

The old friends: Hopie of Hopie’s Kitchen, The Hungry Dog, Melissa of Researching Paris, Jennifer of Chez Loulou, and Hannah of Wayfaring Chocolate.

Just writing this list makes me realize just how many more blog friends I have made, and I’m happy to have each and every one of you in my life, online as well as off.  (Check out the links on the right there for more of them!)

So, to recap: leave a comment to win $75 at CSN Stores, weekend breakfasts rule, and blogging is a shockingly social activity for one that requires so much alone time at a computer.

On this day in 2009: Brownies Are So Hot Right Now (I’ve been remiss in posting these “day in history” notes, but I’m trying to get back on the horse.)

Apologies for all the broken links.  CSN wants it that way, and I want to have a prize to give you.

UPDATE 8:05 pm, Feb 15: The number has been drawn, and the lucky one is commenter #17 – Curt!  Congratulations, and I’ll be emailing you with the prize information shortly.  Thank you all for your comments and delicious breakfast suggestions!

Thank you for the award! Now I’m motivated :)
My favorite weekend breakfast? The full Irish, at PJ Ryan’s in Medford, MA. With a pint of Magners and a Liverpool game. Perfect Sunday morning (well, technically mid-day).
(Note: I do have a US mailing address and I’m not going to turn down the opportunity to try and win my first contest)

Lord, a giveaway! My current favorite breakfast involves pancakes with canned Italian prunes..and of course bacon. The best part is having Henry stand on a chair next to the stove and instruct me..

Breakfast: Due to milk/wheat intolerance for some, chez nous, we eat banana pancakes (sans milk or wheat), topped with organic maple syrup, bacon, and fried eggs. Plus, water melon or berries as possible.

I love eggs and bacon for breakfast.

If I can’t have breakfast at the Tin Shed in Portland I’ll usually make waffles with a seasonal touch depending on the season.Buttermilk waffles topped with strawberries and whipped cream are the favorite.

Generally, I prefer to make my own breakfasts, as I think my eggs, pancakes, and waffles are better than at a restaurant. The exception is my alltime favorite breakfast: eggs Benny (yes, we have an informal relationship). I have never been happy with my own hollandaise.

Ha, that is funny Shannon, because I will *kill* for a box of Life cereal right now!! The grass is always greener, right? ;)

My favorite breakfast is pancake, bacon & eggs (Thank God bacon is more readily available in France now)!!

Mmm. Spicy southwestern grits with ham, peppers, onions and jalapeno jack. Love em.

favorite breakfast-if I am France it is fresh croissants, with a good jam and an egg. But since I do not live there probably cottage cheese with berries-I love the freshness of berries.

I remember being in Bayeaux once staying at a b and b. The husband grew his own plums and made jam-I had so much fun one morning with the couple as he brought out every jar of jam with a good baguette and we enjoyed a lively morning conversation.

Favorite breakfast is a breakfast nook in San Francisco-I always get the strata-my husband gets their ginger cardamon pancakes with fruit. Every time we go there we so enjoy our breakfast.

Kudos on the award.

Thank you for the award! I’m truly honored!
My favorite breakfast involves eggs, home fries, bacon and biscuits. Or a toasted onion bagel with cream cheese, red onion, capers and lox.
Ok, now I’m hungry.

Lovely! Thanks for the chance.

I love eggs and sausage for breakfast, along with blueberries. Yum!

Hmmm . . . favorite weekend breakfast is a hard call. I love brunch type food so much. Lately it’s been cornmeal pancakes topped with spiced apples and a side of thick crispy bacon. Now I’m hungry again.

Recently, I had a delicious breakfast at a restaurant which included sourdough pancakes, maple syrup, sausage, and scrambled eggs, coffee, and orange juice. I was especially good since I didn’t have to make it!

Congrats on the award, well deserved! Black pudding (or even haggis) is by far my favourite for breakfast – alongside eggs, bacon, mushrooms, potato scones… obviously not one for everyday but I couldn’t get enough of it when I was a teen living in Scotland!

My favorite weekend breakfast is buttermilk pancakes which I make with a bit of club soda to add fluffiness (my grandmother’s trick) and extra crispy bacon. I top the pancakes with fresh-cut strawberries. It’s a great excuse to pull out my double-burner griddle and fire it up.

Congratulations to you–and thank you! I am so glad to have “met” you as well–and hope to meet you in person one day soon! That breakfast looks divine. It used to be that I would only like the trout and the biscuits but recently I have decided I might like eggs too. I definitely like the look of these!

My favorite weekend breakfast is cinnamon oatmeal! :)

Congrats! Of late, my favorite winter weekend breakfast has been a breakfast burrito – filled with hashbrowns, gooey eggs, smoky blue cheese, bacon and spinach. So satisfying!

I really prefer Danish abelskiver – round balls of pancakes, that I fill with mixed fresh berries, and cream on top. But recently I had an artichoke and cheese omelet, with a side of cubed butternut squash – at a French cafe in Pdx. – outstanding!

Happy Valentine’s Day Camille! So excited to be on your list, it’s a great honour and I can’t wait to check out the other blogs.
The favourite breakfast at our place is also smoked salmon (from Ikea Shanghai, where else?) with scrambled eggs. And I brought a box of Dorset Cereals muesli all the way back from a recent trip to the UK because now muesli is an expensive guilty pleasure, reserved for special occasions. How times have changed!

Cheers, Fiona

Thanks for the giveaway! I love omelettes on the weekend!

Hmmm. You didn’t actually list what time zone on 2/15, so this might be too late :)
but I couldn’t resist…

Favorite weekend breakfast? Depends on the time of year, but since I am thinking about late summer right now, despite the wintry grayness, eggs from our CSA box scrambled and tossed with basil and diced heirloom tomatoes. Served with mimosas and strong coffee.

My favorite breakfast is stuffed french toast and homemade potato hash!! I’m really excited just thinking about it.
